“Watch Your Kids”: Chaos At Disney Cruise After All Passengers Get Kicked Off Ship, Leaving Families Stranded

Boarding a cruise ship is meant to mark the start of a dream holiday, but recent incidents at sea have shown how quickly those dreams can turn into chaos.

A Disney cruise asked passengers to disembark shortly after boarding last week, leaving them stranded several miles from home.

This sparked furious reactions on social media, with one user writing, “Absolutely ridiculous,” and another adding, “Very poor on the part of Disney.”

The incident came only days after a vessel traveling from Argentina to Cape Verde reported a fatal hantavirus infection.

Passengers checked into their cabins and settled in for the first night of a four-day sailing aboard Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Adventure on Thursday, May 7.

However, the ship remained docked overnight at its departure point, Singapore’s Marina Bay Cruise Center.

A mechanical issue was announced as the reason for the delay.

A Reddit user who was on the cruise said passengers were told they would “set sail soon.”

“Midnight now. No update for us,” the user later wrote in the comments.

“What’s even worse is they’ve shut down all kitchens, coffee, etc.”

About 26 hours later, at approximately 2 p.m. Singapore time, it was announced that the cruise would be canceled because the engineers failed to fix the problem.

Guests were told to disembark and were informed they would receive a letter containing details of a complimentary hotel stay.

According to Disney Cruise Line Blog, which obtained a copy of the letter, Disney booked guests at the JW Marriott Singapore South Beach.

Per the Reddit user, the company also provided guests with a 100 percent refund and a 50 percent discount on a future sailing.

However, the user noted that the 50 percent discount applies only to cruises booked before July 31, 2026, and guests must sail before May 31, 2027.

Cruise cancellations can affect several aspects of travelers’ plans, including flights, hotel bookings, time off work, and childcare arrangements.

Reports stated that Disney also provided $500 to cover these incidental expenses.

Many netizens were dissatisfied with Disney’s response and did not hold back from expressing their frustration

“You need 100% future cruise credit. I got 50% for a cruise canceled 36 hours in advance of boarding,” one Redditor commented.

“I understand that this is obviously an unexpected issue, but they really need to be helping people source and pay for alternative accommodation for all remaining nights of the cruise,” another added.

“I also think they should have tried to gift everyone something from the onboard shops, even if it was only something small.”

“I’ve been considering a Disney cruise; however, this thread, along with the hantavirus story, has me worried,” a third said, while a fourth added, “We sailed on The Wish (another Disney cruise ship), and it was filled with issues as well.”

Meanwhile, a Disney check-in staff member informed users that the cruise “did not have scheduled maintenance days,” citing this as a possible reason for the mechanical failure.

“Got to maximize the profit,” one said in response.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection boarded eight cruise ships between April 23 and April 27 as part of an operation exploring the possession and distribution of Child S**ual Exploitation Material (CSEM).

One of the ships involved belonged to Disney and was docked in San Diego.

A total of 28 people from countries including the Philippines, Indonesia, and Portugal were arrested.

Disney has not confirmed how many of those arrested were its employees.

In a statement issued to Variety, Disney instead said it has “zero tolerance for this type of behavior” and that it fully cooperated with law enforcement during the investigation.

One Reddit user linked the arrests to the cruise cancellation and claimed Disney wanted the latest story to overshadow the earlier controversy.

“I feel they are cutting you guys short to spur outrage and shift media coverage,” they wrote, addressing affected passengers.

Another called the cancellation a “blessing.”
